My microwave stopped microwaving. After watching a few YouTube repair videos, I decided to plunge ahead and try to repair my $750 microwave. I was able to find the right Magnetron to match my GE Profile series microwave ahead of time, and this fit perfectly. The repair is not that easy the first time you take apart a microwave. It’s fairly heavy, bulky, and a bit difficult to take down from above your range by yourself. There is danger from a part called a Capacitor that can maintain high voltage and requires a current discharge. Pay particular attention to videos concerning this procedure if you don’t know what you are doing. But it is quite simple to do and don’t let the scare stories intimidate you from taking on the repair job. Please watch any and all videos you can find before taking on this task! Imperative! Take all precautions. Once you know how to discharge the high voltage capacitor first, replacing the faulty failed magnetron proceeds fairly straightforward. Be careful and methodical and you should have your microwave heating just like brand new in less than a few hours. I recommend taking well lighted pictures before removing anything and before disconnecting any wiring…..this will make re-assembly much easier as you will have a reference. 2 years later and still working perfectly.
