** Update, Oct 2018 **This fall, two hurricanes have ripped through the area, Hurricane Florence from the east, and Hurricane Michael coming up from the southwest. I was wondering how this chimney cap was going to handle those winds, wondering if something that looks to have an airfoil for a top that is held in place with friction from four metal feet would get airborne and disappear, or worse yet, go crashing through someone's window. Well, I'm happy to report that despite the wind gusts and hurricane rain and wind conditions, that the the chimney cap has not budged! Excellent device!---We have an outdoor fireplace with chimney that provides more ambiance than heat, and it's something we use often in the spring and summer evenings while sitting in the backyard after dark. It was built without a chimney cap or cover since it is an outdoor fireplace. However, this year a family of chimney sweeps moved in and rendered the fireplace unusable while they were living in it. (Federal law prohibits removal of the birds until they leave on their own). Last month they finally left, so I quickly bought this chimney cap to prevent them from coming back. The cap is well made with no sharp edges. Everything is welded in place and durable. Installation is ridiculously easy, just slip it in the chimney until it's flush. Because of the way it's constructed, the legs do a good job keeping it in place and from slipping back out. The legs are strong and stiff, but not impossible to bend as needed to provide additional grip if needed. I worried that a strong wind might make this thing airborne since it's not bolted down, but so far we've had a few thunderstorms with high gusts, and I'm happy to see that this chimney cap has stayed put.The inside diameter of my chimney was 14 inches, and the 14 inch chimney cap was a perfect fit.
