Performance Hatches also feature our unique two-part construction for maximum protection, and are easy to attach while still offering a superior watertight seal. This Narrow Oval Hatch is compatible with the Kajak Sport 44/26 oval hatch when mounted on an injection molded rim bolted/glued to the deck; not recommended for rotomolded kayaks that do not feature this rim. Mounting ring sold separately (see Amazon listings for Sea-Lect Designs Part # K745155-1); and when paired together with this hatch can create the perfect hatch system for anyone building a kayak and/or other water craft to which they want to add access or storage!

This is a perfect fitting replacement for my VCP oval hatches. The original hatch covers have a limited lifespan before they “rot” and crumble; I usually discover this at an inconvenient time, loading boats for the first spring paddle. I’m hoping the apparently synthetic rubber edges on these will last much longer; the edges taper down to fit closely to the bottom rim which will hopefully keep a wave from getting under there, and the rigid plastic center area makes a nice dome effect, shedding water better than the stock VCP covers. The availability of interior and exterior tether tabs is a nice touch. Spraying the inner lip with 303 protectant makes the cover snap on very easily, even though at first glance they appear to be a bit too tight.
