Warning: Replacing this part can be very dangerous. Make sure to short the high voltage capacitor before attempting the repair. I left mine u plugged for ever all days as well to be as safe as possible. You will need some well insulated pliers or a screwdriver. Plenty of info on this online (YouTube).I have a Frigidaire FGMV174KFB microwave that randomly started making a loud buzz noise and not heating food. Doing some research I found the two most common components that may cause the issue are a bad diode and a bad magnetron.Since the diode was cheaper I replaced that first. Unfortunately it did not resolve the issue but I already put it in so so I decided to keep it anyway. Since this particular microwave fits perfectly in the spot I have in the kitchen, I really wanted to repair it instead of having to deal with trying to install a New microwave. Even though the price was a bit on the high side, I decided to try to replace the magnetron. I removed the old one and tested it with a volt meter. Interestingly enough, I couldn’t find a fault in it, but it was discolored (brownish) which I figured may be a bad sign so I went through with the replacement anyway. After I was done, I popped a bag of popcorn and celebrated my victory. They really crammed this part in a tight area. If you have thinner hands you will probably have a much easier time. Also have a variety of screwdrivers handy. Finding the right one in my collection was tough since the work space inside the microwave was very limited.Best of luck and be safe! If you have any hesitations, let a pro do it or just replace your unit if you are able to.
